5 Ways to buy Designer on Discount

Today I’m sharing with you some of my tried-and-tested secrets for nabbing designer pieces on a budget.

Over the past few years I’ve come to appreciate better quality clothing so much more. The warmth of lambswool, the softness of cashmere, the smell of leather, it’s a little intoxicating. I try to buy great quality pieces where I can, and I’ve even saved up for a special designer purchase here and there. Given that I certainly don’t have an unlimited budget, I try to get the best value where I can, and have managed to sniff out a few major luxury bargains these past few seasons. Do you remember my glorious YSL Blogger Bag success story?! So today I’m sharing some of my tried and tested secrets with you all.

1: Discount Codes:

This is by far my favourite way to shop designer on discount. Many luxury online stores offer site-wide discount codes, so you can shop your desired pieces to your hearts content. One of my favourite luxury online shops, Shopbop is having a huge flash sale right now, where almost everything on the site is 25% off, and if you spend over $500, the discount goes up to 30%. This is the shop where I bought my Opening Ceremony bomber, my Kendall + Kylie Boots, my ACNE scarf, and my green suede biker jacket, so if you’ve ever wanted to pick any of those up, nows the time! It’s only running for another two days, so act fast. Some of these designers wouldn’t usually go into sale, so it’s a great way to get an extra discount on something special.

2: Stalk the Sales:

Pretty much every luxury website out there have seasonal sales, giving you an opportunity to shop designer on discount, but you have to be prepared, and you have to act fast. Newsletter members often get early access to shop the sales, to take advantage of this by knowing when they’re due. Have all your “wishlist” items saved bookmarked or in your “saved items” if possible, so you’ll see straight away if anything you’re after has gone into sale. Know your requested sizes and measurements already to save time choosing, and nab those bargains while you can!

3: Shop preloved:

A great way of buying designer items on discount is by shopping preloved. Often the items quality is still fantastic, having only been worn once or twice by the original seller, and you can get some major reductions on the original retail price. Online shops like Vestaire Collective are strictly quality controlled (so no fakes) or of you’re a seasoned shopper, try your hand at eBay. Keep an eye on your local designer consignment stores such as Siopaella in Dublin, who buy and sell a great selection of preloved designer.

4: Outlet Stores:

Outlet Villages like Kildare Village (they also have sister locations in Paris and the UK) are a treasure-trove of designer pieces, offering last seasons stock at majorly discounted prices. The Kildare branch has Gucci, Mullbery, and DKNY, to name a few! Also keep an eye on the Gold Label section in TkMaxx, which often have brands Moschino, DFV, DNKY, Michael Kors, and so much more, and don’t forget to check out The Outnet, which is Net-A-Porters luxury outlet sibling.

5: High-street collaborations.

Another way to nab designer on a budget is by shopping the collaborations that designers often do with highstreet stores. One of the biggest successes was last years coveted BalmainXH&M collaboration, which fans agreed was near-identical to the real thing, but for a fraction of the price. I picked up the leather trousers from the collection, and I completely agree that they look and feel like real Balmain. Other popular collaborations include REDValentino, See by Chloe, as well as the upcoming Kenzo for H&M collection.

When I went to college, I was blown away by what people were wearing and worked hard to change my wardrobe. But the person inside doesn’t change with the clothes.
