Five Easy Clothing Hacks for staying warm this winter:

Five Easy Clothing Hacks for staying warm this winter:

With the temperatures hitting the minuses this week, It can be a struggle to choose an outfit that keeps you warm without looking like you’ve left the house with your duvet on (if only that was socially acceptable) so I thought it would be the perfect time to look at some easy ways to stay cosy while looking stylish this winter.

Here are Five Easy Clothing Hacks for staying warm this winter:

1: Layer up.

Layers really are the key to warmth in these colder months, plus they’re so much easier to add and remove as you get warmer/colder throughout the day. Layering up in the morning is much more comfortable than being stuck under one heavy layer all day long. So get clever with your outfit and pop turtlenecks on under blazers, blazers under coats, and coats under blanket scarves, the more layers the merrier!

2: Don’t forget your thermals

A good thermal undershirt is something you might associate with your eighty-year-old granny, but I assure you, thermals are the business. All those fabulous street style snaps of bloggers at New York Fashion Week in the February snow? Yep, they’re all wearing thermals underneath their stylish threads. You needn’t spend heaps to get a good quality thermal top, as many highstreet and department stores have their own versions which do the job nicely.

3: Never underestimate a good hat.

This is such a no-brainer, but adding a hat to your outfit is something people tend to forget, and it really makes such a difference to how warm you’ll feel throughout the day. Plus, it conceals bad weather hair like an absolute dream. You needn’t bundle up under a beanie or bobble hat, opt for something smarter like a baker-boy cap or the oh-so-stylish beret, both of which are micro trends in themselves this Autumn/Winter.

4: Choose fabrics like wool and cashmere.

Reaching for fabrics like pure wool, merino wool, and cashmere or cashmere blends will really up the cosy factor, I guarantee you. I have two cashmere jumpers which I picked up on the highstreet and they are without a doubt the cosiest jumpers I own, not to mention so soft to touch. I also have a lambswool scarf from ACNE which I am never seen without during Wintertime, and it always keeps me warm no matter how low the temperatures may plummet. Choosing these types of fabrics may cost a little more than the synthetic wools found in most highstreet shops, but if you can afford to spend a little more, the difference in quality is amazing. You’ll also get more longevity out of a good quality wool item, so if you think of it in terms of cost-per-wear, it’s not too bad.

5: Proper Footwear

Speaking of quality investments, it is SO important to get your winter footwear right. There’s nothing worse than having cold feet from an uncomfortable pair of shoes, and if they’re not fully waterproof when the snow and sleet hits, you’re in trouble. I’ve teamed up with Sorel in today’s post to showcase their gorgeous Farah boot, which is the perfect mix of functionality and style. They’ve got a suede-look finish but with a waterproof leather upper, which is perfect for those those wet winter days we’re having right now. I put mine to the test during a Sunday walk with Yoseph at Farmleigh house in the wind, rain and sleet. But despite the dreary winter weather, my feet were as toasty as if I was at home on my slippers!  Now that they’ve already gotten their winter-weather test, I’m really looking forward to dressing them up with a jumper dress or a skirt and tights for a day of Christmas shopping in the city. They’re smart and elegant, and the lace-up details on the back add another touch of style. The Farah also comes in a shorter ankle boot style, and a heeled calf-length version, both of which I’ve also got my eyes on! Not only do Sorel have some serious outdoor and ski boots for winter, but their selection of stylish boots is seriously impressive, you can view and shop some of my favourites in the handy widget below:
