The Wardrobe Edit Series: Ditching my Wallet

The Wardrobe Edit Series: Ditching my Wallet

Those of you who read my ‘2016 Wardrobe Detox‘ post last week will already know that this year I have decided to start building the perfect capsule wardrobe for myself, one piece at a time. I have finished clearing out all the clothes that do not work from my closet (more tips on that here) and I have set myself the task of curating a wardrobe of timeless, classic pieces that I will love forever.

When it comes to fashion, I have always agreed with the idea of quality over quantity, but I so rarely put it into practice. So this year I decided to invest in some great basics that will bring my wardrobe to life, starting with the humble wallet. Even when opting for a designer brand, you’re still spending significantly less on a purse or wallet, so it’s a great place to begin your investment journey.

I’m currently using a bright pink Michael Kors zip purse which I picked up on sale the year before last, and it really has stood the test of time. It’s made of that really sturdy treated-leather, and even after using it everyday for such a long time, there’s not one scratch on it, which is pretty amazing. Now I think it’s time for me to invest something of similar-quality, but in a more neutral colour than hot pink this time.

Personally, I much prefer smaller purses and wallets, as they fit into my crossbody bags and clutches easier. I’m often carrying my blogging camera around with me, so having a smaller wallet helps to save on space. Plus, it stops me from accumulating piles of receipts and change, which is something I think we’re all guilty of, right?! So I’ve been thinking of forgoing a proper wallet, and opting for a more compact card-holder instead. Here’s what’s currently on my wishlist:

SAINT LAURENT QUILTED LEATHER CARD HOLDER,  SAINT LAURENT Leather cardholder

I especially love the first card holder with it’s zip compartment which would be perfect for cash and change, and the second one would be perfect for my travel card, as I wont need to take it out of it’s holder to use the touch on/off function when I’m out and about. As you can tell, I’ve been putting a lot of thought into this, haha! Plus, you just can’t beat that beautiful YSL emblem, so timeless. These really are perfect if you are a small-bag convert, and they’re also a great way of owning a piece from a great designer for less.

Some other luxury compact card-holder options I love:

But could I actually use one of these instead of a full wallet everyday? Could you make the switch? Let me know in the comments below. For those of you who simply couldn’t let go of your trusty wallets, I’ll be back in a few days will a full feature on the humble wallet, and my favourite investment options.

Happy Shopping,

Ciara x

I don’t think I could make the switch. I’d feel like I would have lost money without the coins and it doesn’t look like it would fit all my cards. Maybe if I was flying and only needed my bank card. But not for a day to day use. I do love the YSL one though xx

A fair point Aoife! Maybe a separate coin purse is necessary also then! 🙂 I’l love to have the option of both a wallet and just a card holder, for those days/nights when you just need the essentials, and not my million-and-one loyalty and gift cards, haha! xx
