I know I haven’t posted a Career Diaries feature in ages (sorry, guys!) but I have so many fun projects to share with you guys that I thought It would be a good idea to re-vamp this once-popular series again!

If you read my last Loving Lately post you’ll know that I did my first styling slot on Xpose recently, which I was so happy about, but did you also see that I did my first Ireland AM slot recently? Its been a very exciting few weeks! I wanted to share some photos with you guys from the day itself, as well as a bit more about what presenting the slot entails.

Producers from the channel got in touch with me recently about becoming one of their featured stylist on the fashion segment of Ireland AM, which basically means that I can bring in outside fashion brands to get involved with the channel by styling, putting together and presenting a slot for them. The first brand that came to mind was Siopaella, as I’ve been having such a great experience with them through clearing out my wardrobe, so I was eager to put together a slot with them.

Preparation:

Theres a lot of prep-work that goes into an Ireland AM slot, and I styled six looks with three models, with the help of Ciara, Siopaella’s head stylist. We had such great fun putting the looks together, and we were both so happy with the result.  We styled three casual looks, and three workwear looks, all with little black dresses. The theme of this slot was to look at the “Fashion Maths” ie the cost-per-wear and re-sale value of some of Siopaellas designer brands. Needless to say, myself and Ciara spent lots of time drooling over the Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton handbags. The Dream!

On the day:

The Ireland AM slots go out live in the morning, so they usually involve a super-early call time. My day started at 5:30am, I always find its such a weird feeling doing your makeup while its still dark out! Myself and Ciara arrived into the studio at 6:45 with all the clothes and models, which gave us lots of time to get everything prepped before the slot aired at 9:45.

I have to admit I was a little bit nervous before starting (the thought of live tv is more than a bit daunting!) but once I started I had an absolute blast talking through all the looks, and the presenters Alan and Anna couldn’t have been nicer.

Top Tips:

As I mentioned above, preparation is key to your slot running smoothly! Go over your notes until you are fully comfortable with them, and make sure you have your little styling kit with you, for any wardrobe problems (for both you and the models!) I brought hair ties, hair pins, safety pins, baby wipes (for stains or deodorant marks) and some hairspray. Make sure you have some makeup with you for any necessary touchups, and write all your notes clearly on neat cue-cards that you can use during the slot. And above all, try to relax and enjoy it! Live tv is not meant to be absolutely perfect, so if you stumble on a word or make a little mistake, don’t let it throw you. Just keep going and enjoy the moment.

You can watch the slot for yourself here, I’d love to know what you think!

I have decided to break my Career Diaries series up into smaller more frequent posts like this, to give you guys an idea of some of the different projects I’m working on at the moment. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line at ciara@ciaraodoherty.com, and be sure to stay tuned for the next feature in this series, I have lots more planned for you guys!

Hoping you all have a great weekend!

Ciara x
