It’s seems like every single item of clothing on the summer ’17 highstreet has some type of ruffle on it… or is that just me?
Personally I love the ruffle trend, but it can be tricky to figure out which style is best to buy…
….So I’ve put together a little cheat sheet of some of the popular ruffle shirt styles out there, to help navigate the often tricky territory of summer shopping!
Here are 5 Ruffled tops that are easy to wear this Summer:
1: The Tie Blouse
This style is by far the easiest to wear, so if you’re feeling a bit daunted by the trend, then don’t opt for a style with oversized ruffles, a more subtle version like this will work much easier into your existing wardrobe. For my take on ruffles, I paired this gorgeous Topshop polka dot bed blouse with my tan a-line mini skirt, and threw on a biker jacket to break up the girly vibes. I also added this Janessa Leone hat from Shopbop for an extra dose of edge, it’s one of my newer obsessions. I love how simple and floaty these tie-font shirts are, they remind me so much of the french brand Realastation Par which is much more expensive than these high-street versions.

2: The Bardot Style
Bardot tops are still reigning as one of summers biggest trends, their floaty, shoulder-baring style is perfect for hot summer days (not that we get an abundance of them here in Ireland but hey) and the ruffled bardot top is a welcome update to this style. I often find it helps to go one size up when choosing a bardot top, as sometimes the elastic on the chest and shoulders can be uncomfortable and tends to move around, so a looser more relaxed fit is sometimes better. Then pair with your favourite denim shorts and sandals and a pair of oversized earrings for the perfect holiday outfit!

3: The oversized ruffles
If you’re feeling a bit braver and want to really embrace the trend, then why not try some oversized ruffles? They’re whimsical and fun, even if you run the risk of being told by your boyfriend that you look like an extra from a Shakespearean play. My advice is to dress the top down just a little bit by pairing it with a simple pair of jeans and strappy heels, and let the top do most of the talking in the outfit.

4: The Gingham Print
As I’ve mentioned before, Gingham is going absolutely nowhere for summer 17, and it’s the perfect partner to ruffles, giving a simple ruffled top an updated, quirky feel. Stick with monochrome if you want an easier styling experience, and pair with crisp white jeans or denim cut-offs for a sizzlin’ summer look.

5: The One Shoulder
One of my personal favourite styles this summer is the one-shouldered ruffle shirt. There’s just something so fresh about the style – it feels feminine and flirty, yet edgy and chic all at the same time. Self portrait released a gorgeous version that has been repeatedly selling out online, but thankfully online retailers have created similar versions that are much more affordable, and just as fabulous. Who doesn’t love a good designer dupe?!
