Ankle boots. Probably my favourite item of clothing, ever! If you manage to find that perfect pair, it’s like heaven. I probably wear ankle boots more than runners, I feel they give an outfit a certain dose of chic without having to opt for heels, which is essential when you’re running around the city doing a million different things before lunch.
My favourite pair *ever* was a black pointed style from ASOS, I bought them in black last year for just under €100, and to say I got my money’s worth from them would be an understatement. I wore them CONSTANTLY. ASOS re-released the same boot as the ELSA this year, and rather than re-buying them in the black, I got them in the Khaki suede instead, which I am currently loving just as much. If I see the black pair go on sale anytime soon, I’ll probably snap them up too, as I know they’ll get worn.
A little tip from me to you: if you have a pair of perfectly worn-in ankle boots that are looking a bit shabby after a few season’s wear, then keep them for festivals. As long as they don’t have a high heel (which your daily ankle boots shouldn’t have, for your feet’s sake!) then they’ll be prefect for stomping around a festival in. Plus, they’ll give your outfit that effortlessly cool Kate-Moss-at-Glastonbury vibe, minus Pete Doherty, obvs .
Finding a pair of ankle boots that’s right for you is essential. For me, the pointer the toe the better, but you might want a velvet-finish, some fringe-detail, or bit of sexy studding. Right now I’m also loving anything in a patent finish (aka high-shine) or a style that’s cut just above the ankle, it looks trés chic! Snakeskin is also high on my lust-list, especially if you want to make a statement with your ankle boot. Just make sure that they’re comfortable, and you can happily wear them all day without crying. When you’ve got your go-to pair, wear them in with thick socks for the first week, and you should be in the clear.
Below I’ve put together a shoppable edit of my favourite ankle boot styles available right now, all under one hundred clams. Some are well under that, mind you!
