I know, I know, it’s pretty it’s hard to envision SS15 with the current weather we’re having, but oh gosh, can a girl dream about Springtime. Who else is dying to shed a few layers!?! Thankfully, the second trend in my #SS15 series is a cold-weather friendly, so don’t fret! 1970’s-inspired fashion is big news this Spring/Summer, and when it comes to jeans, the flared-cut is the one to get excited about. When styled right, they can look effortlessly cool, and you can wear them with just about everything. Think oversized shirts, cosy sweaters, and striped tees in the summer time!
Flares are something I think a lot of us used to wear in our teens, and so our memories of them are often accompanied by bad outfits, bad hair, and even worse eyebrows. I bought my first grown-up (i.e. not in my teens) pair about 4 years ago. I absolutely loved them, but they ended up getting lost in my overflowing wardrobe back in Galway, and despite searching and searching, I haven’t seen them since!
So this season I decided to cut my losses and buy a new pair. I chose this high-waisted pair in a dark denim wash from Warehouse, but I also couldn’t resist this black pair from ASOS. As I mentioned above, flares are perfect for styling with coats and jackets in the cold weather, and I’ll be bringing these two pairs on my trip to Budapest next week, so I’ll get to show you guys how I style them up in the cold weather.
[thefeedproducts style=’two’]If you do decide to invest in a pair of flares this season, here are my top tips for getting it right:
- aim for a high-waisted style for a more flattering cut and to elongate the legs.
- buy them a size smaller and squeeze into them, as they will always stretch!
- if they are a dark denim wash, be sure to run them through the washing machine (alone) first to get rid of any excess dye. You don’t want it transferring onto your shoes or bag!
I have chosen some of my favourite styles online and linked them in the handy widget above for you to browse and shop with ease. Also, If you haven’t checked out my first #SS15 Trend Report on Khaki, be sure to check it out!
