What to wear to an Irish Festival

With Body and Soul kicking off this weekend, festival season is well and truly upon us. My adorable niece Rebecca is being Christened in Galway this weekend, so thats a pretty good excuse to miss a festival, right? Having a musician as a boyfriend can have some perks, (Hey, yos!) with one being the festival passes that can come your way. I have been lucky enough to go to lots of Irish festivals over the past few years, it’s such a treat.Festivals are always so much fun, and a great way to have fun with your personal style. If you missed my recent Primavera festival fashion diary from Barcelona, you can check it out here.

As we all know, you can’t always bank on the Irish weather (it’s unpredictable at the best of times!) so festival dressing can be a tricky process. Here are some tips I’ve learned over the years:

1: Avoid light, flimsy fabrics on your bottom half. You will be sitting down on grass or concrete, so materials like leather skirts and denim shorts are much more durable, and they’ll keep you that bit warmer too.

2: Layering is key! Festival weather change in an instant, so put together an outfit that has a few layers that you can take off if it starts to get warmer. Why not try a sheer white t-shirt over a bralette, with a leather jacket on top, a plaid shirt tied around the waist as an extra layer, with a cosy gilet layered over it in the evening.

3: Back-packs and bum-bags are your savour. They’ll keep all your essentials in place, and keep your arms free for dancing, drink-holding, selfie talking, and other fun things!

4: Sturdy footwear is a MUST. Unless you’re fine with your toes getting crushed in a crowd full of people, leave the flimsy sandals and flip-flops at home. Sneakers, trainers, and ankle-boots are the only footwear you need to be thinking about for the weekend. Wellies are fine too, but I personally find them a little annoying, and I’ll only wear them if there’s actually mud to trek through.

5: If in doubt, add glitter! Festivals are the perfect time to have fun with your hair and makeup, and try a beauty look you normally wouldn’t otherwise. Feathers, glitter and stick-on-gems are all super-fun to use with your girlfriends, just remember to bring a proper makeup-remover! I started using temporary metallic tattoos this year at Primavera, and I love them! Super easy to apply, even in a tent.

Now that I’ve shared some of my tips on festival dressing, it’s time to choose your outfit! There are so many gorgeous pieces available online right now, I found it really hard to whittle it down to a select few to share with you all. I especially love this faux suede biker jacket and this feather gilet, so gorgeous!

Missguided are also offering 30% off all festival bits with the code “FESTIVAL30“, which is pretty nifty!
