Today marks the first day of Spring and I cannot tell you how happy I am at this little fact! Despite the temperatures still being low and the snow has not yet melted, there’s a definite feel of Spring in the air and it’s so lovely to see glimpses of sunshine after such a long dreary winter. Fashionably-speaking, the humble trench-coat has always been a classic, but this year it’s been having a serious moment in the SS18 trend reports. It’s great to see such a timeless and versatile item of clothing getting so much praise….

1: It’s a classic

When I think of classic items of clothing, I think of smoking jackets, blue denims, white tees, and of course; trench coats. They’re a piece of clothing that will always come back into fashion season after season, but for this Spring/Summer in particular, they’re a heavy hitter.  We’re seeing a much more oversized, deconstructed take on the trench (which can easily be achieved by sizing up in any version you like) as well as some beautiful check and houndstooth printed versions to add some extra sass – I’m SWOONING over this striped Mango version.

2:  It’s the perfect Spring layer

Offering the perfect amount of warmth for chilly Spring Days, the trench is the true transitional clothing star. I layered mine up today with a cosy knit jumper and my favourite Levis jeans which kept me toasty in the early Spring chill, but in a few weeks time I’ll be ditching the jumpers and pairing mine with cute tees and bare legs… roll on the warmer weather!!

3: They’re super easy to style

Trench coats are so easy to style, in fact, there’s very little that doesn’t look good with them. Dress them down with jeans and a tee for casual weekend lunches, pair them with your workwear for your 9-5 commute, or drape one over the shoulders of your date-night look for a chic and non-fussy evening jacket.

Whether you want to go full on maxi-length or you’re looking for a more cropped fit, there are so many different styles and silhouettes for every taste and budget.
